True Love

I recently was asked by a friend of mine, Who happens to be an Assistant Professor at a local area collage to write a short essay on Love & Relationship. This came about after a short, But meaningful conversation, (And the need for some extra credit on my grade!) with another friend and us. Who confessed to us that - “She did not love her husband! ” And that they have not loved each other for the last 15 to 20 years! But she does not have any plans for a divorce from him. Why? you may ask?. Would she stay with someone who she did not love for that long? Her answer - - - Later! First lets ask what is Love? Is it what we thought it was at the age of fourteen or fifteen? And looked at it with all of the innocence and wide-eyed wonder of youth? Or is it more like that comforting feeling of being with an old friend, whose warmth, candor and interests are the same as yours? Or is True Love! And I mean not just having some emotions for someone. But the kind of Love that you sell your soul for! The kind that lasts forever in the heart! The kind of love one is willing to die for !

Just a myth? Like the Unicorn?, A fairytale land that doesn’t really exist? Is true love, just a story that you heard one of your grandparents tell? That’s what my friend who was married for 32 years says. Oh she admits that at first, she thought it was love. But now she says lust had more to do with it than love did!

After that died out. It had to do more with being inconvenienced. She says that she did not want the hassle of trying to find a place that she could afford on her income alone and he did not want to let his parents know that his marriage was not working. My friend does not believe in true love anymore, and it seems that with new statistics saying that 60 % of all marriages ends in divorce. Maybe true love is no more than a myth!

As for myself? I’m currently Separated from my wife & planning to get a divorce shortly. But once upon a time in my life, A long time ago! There was an incredible young woman who captured forever a tender moment in my life. Sadly it ended. But every once in a while, Something rekindles a spark of nostalgia in me and I remember that moment in time! And I wonder if I will ever feel that Warmth And Richness of a Love that touches the heart and Quickens the Soul? The kind of love that captures forever a tender moment in my life again!

And I pray to god that if so, I will not lose it again.
